How to Manifest Your Dream Home: My True Story and the Done List Method

If you’re wondering how to manifest your dream home, I can only tell you what happened to me. Every night for months, I lay in bed and walked through a house that didn’t exist yet. I saw my children playing in a yard. I felt the quiet. I knew exactly what I wanted.

A few months later, I found it. We’ve now lived in it for four years.

This is the true story of how I visualized our home before I ever saw it, told the way it happened, long before I had a name for it or had written my first Done List. At the end, I’ll show you how I’d do it today with the Done List Method, and the 5 simple steps I’d follow again.

How to manifest your dream home starts with a strong reason

I want to be honest about why this wish was so powerful. At that time, our living situation was something I could barely bear. I wanted out, and not in a vague “someday” way. I wanted it with my whole body, every day.

That’s the part many guides on how to manifest your dream home skip. The wish wasn’t a nice daydream. It was urgent and unbearable. And that urgency made me very clear about what I needed.

Get specific: the home I pictured every night

More than four years ago, my husband and I decided it was time for a place of our own, with space for our children and a little peace for ourselves.

I didn’t hope for “somewhere.” I was looking for a house, ideally on the ground floor, big enough for children’s games, and with a yard.

Every night, I imagined it, down to the smallest details:

  • My children playing in the living room.
  • My own little corner in the laundry room, and me ironing in peace. 😊
  • The children’s room, completely in their style.
  • Two chairs and a table on the terrace, just for my husband and me.
  • A tiny children’s playhouse under a cherry tree.

I felt how calm it was to live there.

Meanwhile, the listings showed nothing like it. Night after night, nothing. If you’re learning how to manifest a house and you’re in that stage right now, where you imagine something and the world shows you nothing, I know how it feels. For me, it lasted a few months. Then everything changed.

The detour: the first “almost”

Two places appeared almost at once.

The first to call us was a small apartment in a building: two bedrooms, one without a window. It was brand new and had a little yard. We were rooting for it. But since we were a family with two children, the landlords chose another couple.

I was disappointed. But right after that call, the next one finally came.

The viewing: I knew the moment I walked in

It was the owners of the home we live in now. My husband was at work and my older daughter was at kindergarten, so my baby, only a month old, and I went to see it on our own.

I filmed everything from the entrance. The house was set back from the street, with a lot of yard around it. Our place was on the ground floor, and upstairs lived another tenant, lovely people who had been there for over a decade.

It felt huge, more than 100 m², with a terrace and room for everything we needed.

To be honest, it smelled of tobacco and was full of very old furniture. It didn’t matter. The moment I stepped inside, I felt happy. My heart started to beat faster, and I knew: this is it. I could already see our own furniture in those rooms.

The part I didn’t plan: negotiating the price

Here’s something I’m quietly proud of. At the time, I worked in purchasing, and I had been sharpening my negotiation skills there every day. I used them at that viewing.

We negotiated the price, and I kept my negotiating stance, calm and steady. I honestly don’t know how I managed it with my heart racing. But what worked was observation. I noticed that the owner was a man who wanted to rent the place as soon as possible. I used that, quietly, to find a price that worked for both of us.

The price ended up being more than fair for that much space. Everything fell into place.

Before and after: our rented home, room by room

Over time we renovated, and all the old furniture is gone. Instead of describing it, I put the whole story into one video, so you can see how to manifest your dream home in real life, every room before and after:

The kitchen was the biggest change, and it took the longest. After three years we finally redid it. My husband and I scraped the old plaster off the walls ourselves, and I repainted the old-fashioned tiles. We got a new white IKEA kitchen, a 60 cm oven (my old one was only 50 cm wide) and a dishwasher, which I had dreamed about too.

Until then, I washed everything by hand, and since there was no hot water in the kitchen, I carried the dishes to the bathroom to wash them there. It’s a good reminder that when you learn how to manifest a house, not everything arrives at once. Some things come in a few months, and some take years. Now the dishwasher saves me so much time.

Even our cat has her own space now, with her own scratching post and climbing tree.

The rest of the home followed, one room at a time:

  • The terrace: from tired and bare to full of flowers.
  • The living room: the room I used to picture every night, now ours, with our own furniture.
  • The kids’ room: completely empty the day we moved in, and now completely in their style.
  • Our bedroom: the old wardrobes are gone, and it’s our own place to rest.

Everything is redone as best we could. My children love it, especially when their friends come over, because there is so much room. And our landlords are wonderful. They don’t intrude.

I’m not done yet

I’ll be honest with you: this home isn’t my final dream. It was the first chapter, and learning how to manifest your dream home never really stops.

Now I’m visualizing something bigger: our very own house, on a plot of land just across the street from where we live. I know exactly which one. I know the size of the house, the floor plan and the dimensions of the land.

It hasn’t happened yet. That’s why I write it in the past tense on my Done List every night, and why I’m telling you before it’s true.

I’ll update this post when it happens. 🤍

Can I prove it was manifesting?

No. I can’t prove that my nightly visualizing brought us here. Maybe the right home simply appeared at the right time. Maybe I was ready to recognize it, because I knew exactly what I was looking for.

But I know this: I wanted it so intensely, I felt it every night, and when it showed up, in an imperfect shape with old furniture and a smell of smoke, I knew immediately it was the one. I’m convinced that clarity helped, and clarity is the heart of how to manifest your dream home.

How to manifest your dream home with the Done List Method

Back then I had no name for what I was doing. Today I do. The Done List Method is exactly what I did in my head, now done on paper: instead of a to-do list full of things you still owe yourself, you write what you want in the past tense, as if it were already done.

A Done List Planner has you write your goals in the past tense, before they’re true.

Instead of “find a ground-floor home with a yard,” you write:

  • Moved into a bright ground-floor home with a big yard.
  • The children played in the garden all afternoon.
  • Had coffee on the terrace, in peace.
  • Our home was full of calm.

Writing it this way isn’t about pretending. It’s a way to be very clear about what you want and to feel it before it happens, which is also what I did every night, lying in bed. This is close to what Neville Goddard describes as living in the feeling of the wish fulfilled, and you can read about him on Wikipedia. I wrote more about this in Living From the End, and you can see the difference between the two kinds of lists in Done List vs To-Do List.

One important thing: writing it down doesn’t replace action. Manifesting opened the door for me, but I still had to go to the viewing, ask questions and negotiate the price. A Done List works best when you pair it with calm, practical steps.

How to manifest your dream home: 5 simple steps I’d follow again

  1. Know why you want it. The stronger your reason, the clearer your picture.
  2. Get specific. Not “a nice home,” but a ground-floor house, a yard, space for kids to play.
  3. Write it as done and imagine it every night. Before sleep, I saw it and felt it as if it were already mine. Today I’d write it as a Done List line.
  4. Stay open to detours. The first option fell through, and the right one came right after.
  5. Show up with a calm head. When it arrived, I went to the viewing, observed and negotiated calmly. Manifesting opened the door, but my own skills got me through it.

Can you really manifest a house?

I can’t promise it, and nobody can. What I can say is that visualizing helped me get clear on what I wanted, so I recognized the right home when it showed up and acted on it.

How long does it take to manifest a home?

For me, the wish took a few months to show up as a real viewing. The renovation took years. Some things arrive quickly and some don’t, so be patient with the process.

What should I write on my Done List to manifest a home?

Write short past-tense lines about the life you want in it: the rooms, the feeling, the small daily moments. Keep them specific and believable to you.

Is it okay to manifest a rental?

Yes. Ours is a rental, and it’s the home I pictured, loved and made my own. You don’t need to own a place to make it feel like yours.

Try it tonight: your first step to manifest a home

If you want to know how to manifest your dream home, start small. Think of one thing you want, like a home, a job or a quiet evening. Ask yourself why you want it so much. Then write one line about it in the past tense, and feel it for a minute before you fall asleep. If you’d like a place made for this, my Done List Planner and the Signature Collection were designed around it.

Today, when my children play in that same yard, I sometimes stand on the terrace and remember those nights, lying in bed and picturing exactly this. It was real long before I could see it.

That’s my answer to how to manifest your dream home: get clear, write it as done and show up calmly. Have you ever visualized something that later showed up in your life? Tell me in the comments. I’d love to hear your story.
